This is a relaxed yet highly informative outside tour of the stars above Te Anau, Fiordland and Southern New Zealand. It combines historic and modern astronomy, myths, a strong New Zealand and Maori theme with a chance to view things you will never have seen before. Your guide will take you to our observing site offering commanding views of the land and skyscape. Our experience is friendly and personal with a small group maximum of 12. We have capacity for 8 pick ups / drop offs in the Te Anau township only. The trip is approximately 1.5 hours long.

This excursion provides the opportunity for an unforgettable night-sky encounter. Although we adapt the programme for optimal viewing and objects may vary from trip to trip, you are likely to see craters and mountains on the moon, other planets (plus their moons depending on which planet), and millions of stars clustered together in a single glance through an eye piece. See areas of stardeath and starbirth as we take you on a time-travel through the universe. Let our powerful telescope bring the universe to life in a way you have never imagined.

With a maximum of 12 guests you will get plenty of unhurried viewing time through our large telescope. As all of our trip is conducted under the stars with a knowlegable guide you will have no trouble in finding out all you ever wanted to know. All guests receive their own set of complimentary binoculars for the duration of the excursion so you will be able to explore the cosmos at your own pace between frequent telescope viewings. Our guides all use laser star pointers which seemingly touch the stars, so you will always know exactly where we are looking. Complimentary hot drinks are also provided along with a free full-colour star and sky map in a convenient hard carry case.
